After reading one of the Vanmonthly newsletters I saw the idea of implementing quizlet in a different way in my classroom!
Instead of providing the students a set of terms or cards for them to practice, I asked the students to t set up their own stacks of vocabulary terms/cards and customize them to how they learn best.
Students have been making stacks/cards of terms for each unit as a warm-up in class and adding voice, pictures, and other phrases that help them understand the term or concept more clearly. We have moved from a paper glossary in the back of the composition notebook to a digital more fluid form of showing and practicing knowledge.
When they are finished they can choose which way they want to practice and study their terms and even study a set of all their terms from the whole year! The students send in a screenshot of their screen with their cards and results from whatever study method they choose as their evidence for their assignment.
Turns out the students enjoy creating these digital flash cards and have downloaded the app to their personal devices and began using it to help them study for other classes as well! That is a win in my book and I am grateful for the sharing in the Vanguard cohorts for helping me develop this now routine practice in my classes!
Someone reads the VANMonthly! That's a win in our book. ;) I'm glad your students are excited to learn outside of school, and that others are taking notice. Yay for grassroots campaigns!
